• Hard factory reset:
  • Physical/maintenance procedures:
  • If the device is managed by your organization, contact your IT/admin team or the reseller before resetting.
  • If you never set a password, why is the printer locking you out? There are three common scenarios:

If your WFC5790 was leased or managed by a company like Epson Print Admin or PaperCut, the password may be stored on a remote server. In that case, a local reset won’t work—you’ll need to contact your IT department or the leasing company.

Epson prioritizes security. Consequently, there is no universal default password that works on every single WF-C5790. However, based on the manufacturing date and firmware version, one of two scenarios will apply to your device:

If you bought the printer refurbished or from a managed print service (MPS), the password may have been set by the previous owner or technician. Common corporate defaults include admin, password, 0000, or the store’s name.

Because the WFC5790 is often used in business environments, the standard "Factory Reset" from the menu may still ask for the admin password to proceed. If that happens, here is the workaround:

Before panicking, you should know that many WF-C5790 units ship without an active admin password—or with a very simple default. Try these first:

    | Attempt | Password / Entry | | :--- | :--- | | 1 | Leave the field completely blank | | 2 | 11111 (Five ones) | | 3 | 12345 | | 4 | 00000 | | 5 | The device's serial number (found on the back label) |

Important Note: Some enterprise units pre-configured by third-party dealers use the serial number as the default. Others use admin as the username (though the WF-C5790 typically just asks for a numeric password on the touchscreen).

This procedure releases the lock on the Admin password by wiping the Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) settings.
