F1 2013 Change Name Fix -

Note: This is a temporary fix. You can change your locale back after creating your profile.

  • Make controlled test save:
  • Check timestamps and file sizes before/after name change.
  • Disable Steam Cloud (for testing) to rule out sync overwrite.
  • Inspect save file with hex/editor to find string field and observe encoding and length constraints.
  • Try changing name via a known reliable save editor (community tool) and observe behavior after reload.
  • Run game as Administrator to exclude write-permission issues.
  • Check game logs/event viewer for write errors or crashes during save.
  • If you prefer not to edit files, this is a safe but finicky fix. It works because the game prioritizes controller input over keyboard input when a gamepad is connected.

    The Fix:

Why this works: Disconnecting the controller forces the active input device back to the keyboard. The timing is tight, but this has worked for users since 2014.

If you own the Steam version, the Steam Cloud can sometimes overwrite your local changes or corrupt your profile name. f1 2013 change name fix

Inside savegame, you’ll see files like:

You only edit ProfileData. Do not touch career files unless you also want to reset your name there (more on that later). Note: This is a temporary fix

Solution: That is not a bug; it is a feature (or lack thereof). F1 2013 only supports a limited set of pre-recorded names (like "Lewis," "Sebastian," or "Nick"). The "Name Fix" only changes the on-screen text, not the audio.
