Save Failed: Hitman Blood Money

Fix #1: Grant Write Permissions
Navigate to Documents\Eidos\Hitman Blood Money\. Right-click the folder → Properties → Security → Edit. Give “Users” and your account Full Control. Also, uncheck “Read Only” for the folder and apply to all subfolders.

Fix #2: Exclude from OneDrive
Right-click the Documents folder in File Explorer → OneDrive → “Stop syncing this folder.” Or simply move the Eidos folder to a local path like C:\Games\Hitman Saves\ and use a symlink.

Fix #3: Run as Admin + Compatibility Mode
Right-click HitmanBloodMoney.exe → Properties → Compatibility → Check “Run this program as an administrator” and set compatibility to Windows 7 or XP SP3.

Fix #4: The Nuclear Option – Delete and Recreate
Delete everything inside Documents\Eidos\Hitman Blood Money\ (back up your progress first!). Launch the game – it will recreate the folder with proper permissions.

This isn't a bug, but it’s worth mentioning for new players. In Blood Money, you cannot save freely on Professional or higher difficulties. On lower difficulties, you have a limited number of "Save Slots" (represented by the middle bar in the menu).

If you have used all your save slots, the game will not overwrite them or create new ones—you must pick a previous slot to overwrite.

The original 2006 version of Blood Money was designed for Windows XP. It attempts to write save files directly to your My Documents folder. On modern versions of Windows (10 and 11), this folder often has strict permission settings or is synced with OneDrive, which can block the game from writing data.

The Fix:

Sometimes the "save failed" error is a symptom of a deeper corruption. A missing registry key or a corrupted DirectX driver can cause the save routine to crash.
