ITVX launched in late 2022, replacing the legacy ITV Hub. Unlike subscription services (SVOD) like Netflix or Disney+, ITVX operates primarily on an advertising-funded model. While a "Premium" subscription tier exists to remove ads, the vast majority of users access the platform for free.

For ITV, advertisements are the primary revenue stream. To protect this revenue, ITVX utilizes sophisticated video delivery architecture designed specifically to prevent users from separating the content from the commercials.

In the UK, breaching a website's terms of service is not a criminal offense (Computer Misuse Act 1990 usually applies to hacking, not ad blocking). However, ITVX’s Terms & Conditions explicitly state: itvx adblocker

"You may not use any software or device to block advertisements on the Service."

Users attempting to block ads on ITVX often find that traditional browser extensions (such as AdBlock or uBlock Origin) are ineffective. Understanding why requires a basic understanding of streaming architecture.

Use an extension called "Video Speed Controller" (not an adblocker). When an ad plays on ITVX, you can set the playback speed to 16x. The 30-second ad finishes in 2 seconds. "You may not use any software or device

Note: This works inconsistently. ITVX recently patched this by disabling speed controls during ad pods.

This is the simplest solution. For a monthly subscription (usually £5.99 – check current pricing), ITVX Premium removes all advertising from most content. You also get access to BritBox International content and the ability to download shows to watch offline.
