Software | Motorola Gm950 Plus Programming

Before you program your GM950 Plus, understand that transmitting on unauthorized frequencies is illegal in virtually every country (FCC in the US, OFCOM in the UK, ISED in Canada).

Programming software itself is neutral; how you use it determines legality.

The Motorola GM950 Plus is a business/industrial two-way radio designed for fleet, commercial, and industrial communications. Programming software for the GM950 Plus enables configuration of frequency channels, squelch, PL/DPL tones, power levels, channel spacing, scan lists, and other operational parameters. Such software is used by radio technicians and fleet managers to customize radios for specific radio systems and regulatory environments.

Before changing anything, you must extract the current codeplug from the radio. motorola gm950 plus programming software

  • "Codeplug Error":
  • Radio Dead after Programming:
  • WARNING: Ensure the radio is powered by a stable 13.8V DC power supply (or a vehicle battery) before attempting to read or write. If the power cuts out during a write cycle, the radio firmware can become corrupted ("bricked").

Here is where most people stumble. The GM950 Plus uses a 15-pin D-sub connector on its rear panel (labeled "ACCESSORY"). This is not a serial port. To interface a computer, you need:

  • A True Serial Port: A built-in hardware COM port (USB-to-serial adapters rarely work reliably with DOS RSS). Many technicians keep an old Pentium III or IV laptop with a physical RS-232 port just for this.
