In the shadowy world of Nintendo leaks, datamines, and unsubstantiated 4Chan posts, few rumors capture the imagination quite like the one currently echoing through niche forums: Prototype +2.

While Nintendo’s 2024-2025 lineup is focused on heavy hitters like Metroid Prime 4 and a potential new 3D Mario, a small but vocal group of dataminers claim that a mysterious, first-person psychological horror title has been quietly certified for a Switch-exclusive release. But what is Prototype +2? Is it a sequel, an experimental art game, or something else entirely? prototype+2+nintendo+switch+exclusive

As a true exclusive (not timed), Prototype+2 includes:

  • Nintendo Costumes: Mario’s cap (glide becomes a cape), Fox McCloud’s reflectors (parry mechanic).

Short bursts of destruction during commutes or long sessions docked at home—the game’s mission structure (hunting down targets, consuming enemies for health and memory) lends itself well to handheld play. An exclusive version could optimize loading times and add gyro aiming for the Bio-Bomb power.

The name itself is the first puzzle. The “+2” suffix suggests a direct sequel to something called Prototype, yet no game by that name exists on the Switch eShop—or any other major platform. Nintendo Costumes: Mario’s cap (glide becomes a cape),

The leading theory comes from a 2023 leak from a now-defunct Discord server. A user claiming to be a former QA tester for a Kyoto-based second-party developer described Prototype as an unreleased tech demo for the original Switch in 2016. That demo, codenamed “Project Dollhouse,” allegedly used HD Rumble to simulate the sensation of holding different materials (glass, wood, flesh) in an empty white room.

Prototype +2, then, is reportedly the full realization of that concept. Unlike its predecessor (which was merely a sensory test), the “+2” stands for two new pillars: Narrative and Asymmetry.
