The eternal question: PC vs. Console vs. Handheld.

With Update 1.0.2, the Switch version of Civilization VII finally fulfills the promise of "Civilization on the go." While the PC version supports 4K resolution and 120fps, the Switch NSP version offers:

The downside: The late-game (Modern Age) still sees frame drops below 20fps on huge maps. Update 1.0.2 mitigates this but does not eliminate it. If you are a pure performance snob, stick to the PC Steam version. If you value convenience, hunt down the NSP.

  • Local wireless play on the Switch was notoriously unstable in version 1.0.0. Update 1.0.2 improves the handshake protocol for NSP users playing via LAN or emulated online services. Desync errors during the "War & Peace" resolution phase have been dramatically reduced.
