Smaart 9 Manual Better May 2026

One of the most powerful features of Smaart v9 is the Workspace Manager. The manual mentions it on page 34, but it doesn't tell you how to design a layout that saves hours.

Stop using the default view. Here is the better workspace configuration for live sound:

Save this as "Live_Sound_Default.s9ws." The manual tells you how to save it. It never tells you what to save.

By default, the spectrograph shows 20Hz-20kHz. Change this to 20Hz-10kHz immediately. The manual doesn't tell you that the top octave (10k-20k) is almost always irrelevant for system tuning and just adds visual noise. Zoom in on the speech frequencies (100Hz-8kHz) for a "better" view.

The official Smaart 9 manual is written like a legal contract. It is organized alphabetically or by menu structure. This is great if you need to know what "FFT Size" does, but terrible if you are trying to ring out a monitor wedge.

To use the Smaart 9 manual better, start by flagging the Transfer Function Mode chapter. Highlight the section on "Loopback Calibration." If you skip that, every phase trace you measure will be wrong. The manual states this, but it does it in a flat, unemotional tone. Read that section three times.
