If the hardware is recognized but VCDS says "Interface Not Registered" or gives an error:

  • Plug in the Interface: Windows should now detect it.
  • Run VCDS via Loader: Always run the software using the Loader.exe file, not the original VCDS shortcut.

    • Repairing a 22.3.1 clone requires basic SMD (Surface Mount Device) soldering skills, a hot air rework station, and a USB TTL programmer (like an ST-Link or CH341A).

    Install VCDS 22.3.1 (disconnect internet). Run VCDSLoader.exe as administrator. Plug in the repaired interface. The loader should recognize it and patch the DLL in memory. Test with "Test" button in VCDS Options.

    After reassembly (and double-checking for solder bridges), I plugged it into my Windows 10 laptop. I installed VCDS 22.3.1 specifically (never update a clone!). If the hardware is recognized but VCDS says

    I clicked "Save." I plugged it into my 2013 Audi A3. Scanned for modules. The engine, ABS, and Airbag modules all responded instantly. Plug in the Interface: Windows should now detect it

    It worked. The brick had been rebuilt into a cobblestone.

    Clip the CH341A to the 25Q16. Read the chip and save the dump. You might recover the unique serial number needed for certain loaders.
